Lighting, Light Fixtures, Ceiling and Exhaust Fans - New Switch and Fan Connection

I currently have a switch that controls ceiling lighting in my room. Now I want to add a ceiling fan and would like to add new switch next to existing switch to control it.
Can someone please advise how should the wiring be done?

The wiring should be done properly. We cannot tell you anything more until and unless you tell us what the existing wiring is and what you want as the end result.

Do you want a duplex switch? Do you want two switches side by side?

The general directions are as follows:

Replace the ceiling box with a fan rated box. Replace the existing cable with a three wire cable. Wire properly, based on the existing wiring.

I can replace single switch with Duplex.

I do not have any wiring for Fan. This will be totally new wiring (no ceiling box). I want to run wire from switch to Fan.

Your posts contradict each other.

Which is it? Do you have a ceiling light or not?

Regardless of which of those is correct, we still need to know the wiring of the switch and whatever it controls. AND the we need to know what should happen to what it presently controls.

To make it less confusing. Just assume I have no wiring on the ceiling. I have only one switch which controls the outlet.

How I can add a new switch, run a wire from it, create ceiling point to hang fan.

Where do you intend to get power from?

This is where I am confuse. Can I get it from the switch?

I don;t know if you can get power from the switch. In my first response I asked you to tell me the wiring. As soon as you do that I will tell you if you can get power at the switch.

Currently; we have multiple outlets in the room. One of the outlet is controlled with a switch next to the door.

There is no other wiring in the room. Nothing in the Ceiling.

Black wires of two cables are capped together before it is connected to switch (Bottom side). Another black wire from the third cable is connected to top side of the switch which; I believe; is going to the outlet which it controls.

There are two golden screws on the right side of the switch -- both are unused.

No, I don't think you are being accurate. I am guessing there are white wires, possibly a red wire, and maybe some bare or green ground wires.

Sorry. Yes there are white and bare wires in the box.

No Red or Green wires.

How are those wires connected?

All three white wires are connected through cap.

4 bare wires (one each from three cables and one from switch) are connect together.

Yes, you have power in the box. So you can run a new cable from the box to wherever you want to put this fan and light.

Is there a special type of cable which I should run for fan+light? I think I read somewhere in this forum that it should have three wires + earth.

Please buy and read the book Wiring Simplified. Then buy and read two other books on home wiring. At this point in time you lack the knowledge to do this project. This forum (or any other forum) cannot tell you everything. You need to do some reading and learning on your own.

You need three wires plus ground if you want the fan and the light to be separately controlled. If you want them to be controlled together then you only need two conductors plus ground. I recommend three conductors plus ground regardless, to allow for future expansion.
