I have a half finished basement on an older house (1950s) and the single pane windows are in need of replacement. They sit right at ground level and are your typical 32x14 style opening. Im thinking of going with glass block.
ANy recommendatations?
My thought is run down to home depot and get some premade glass block panels with the small vent you can open and install those all the way around.
I have 2 windows on each wall of my house. I dont know if it would be good to do some in glass block panels and some in regular windows so i can open them or to keep everything uniform and the same. I might like to put in one you can open although that will decrease security a bit.
Dont know....
Any thoughts or recommendations here? Are the premade glass block panels from the home stores a good option? They seem decent.

It's probably safe to say that whatever you do, it will be better than what you currently have. If you can find glass block windows that fit, fine. You might also be able to forget the glass block and find a vinyl hopper window made for your size basement window opening. Security really isn't an issue with opening/nonopening basement windows since either can be busted in with a swift kick. (unless you want to spend some major bucks and get windows with better security).

If you are lucky enough to have an even multiple of 8" or 6" in the height and width of your window frame, then you can buy the Pittsburgh Corning kit and DIY. I installed a 32 x 32 window (my first) in 30 minutes, caulked and ready. Overestimated time it would take and had to reduce my estimate and invoice. Boy, I should have taken alot longer breaks between blocks. Of course I framed the opening, so that had alot to do with it. Just make sure the exterior windows are not in a proposed bedroom, as you must maintain egress space.
