I have a wall switch that controls an outlet. I want to add a ceiling fan/light, can I put that on the same switch keeping the outlet connected?

Yes, but you may have to wire from the receptacle.
Tell us what you have (the wiring at each location) and what you want to do and we'll go from there. Be very specific about the wiring. Tell us what cables exist, what wires are in those cables and how those wires are connected to anything.

And tell us about the tabs on the side of the receptacle between the screws. Is the one on the gold side broken off?
