Hi!
I'm an American, living in the UK. I am doing some remodeling and want to put a light/ceiling fan in my livingroom. The problem is I can't find the style of fan I want over here.( a very basic wood effect with rattan inlay and globe type light, like I had in my home in SC) I was wondering if I ordered or had my family send one, whether the voltage would convert to 220 here and if it would safely work?
Many thanks for any advice you can give!!
Lisa

No. While you might be able to find light bulbs that would fit that are 240 volts (but they would be very expensive, I'm sure), the motor for the fan would not convert.

This is not something even worth considering.

It is much eaiser to get the ceiling fan in UK becasue their wiring is set up to their voltage than our USA verison and it dont really juifsfy the cost with it.

and also with the motor controller it will get damaged once a 240 volt hit that one and fry it up [ the UK normal voltage is 240 volt Line to netural and in North Americian system is 120 volt line to netural ]

Merci,Marc

What may be doable is to install "American" blades on a UK fan.

Thanks so VERY much for your quick and kind answers to my question. Seems the only fans I can find here have either Victorian style lights or they are Super Duper ultra modern styles. I have checked whats available online and been to 1 Lighting Specialist store with no luck. Guess I will have to keep searching.... London is only 15 miles away and a short train journey, so may have to try there, however I'll probably pay Big Bucks (or should I say £££) for it!!!!
I'll let you know the outcome!!!
Thanks again for your help!!
Lisa:)
