Does anyone know of a process to take shiny gold doorknobs and cabinet pulls and change them into a bronze antiique look that is a more up to date look?

Your local refinishing shop can order a darkening solution that is used on brass, bronze or copper. If, for whatever reason the shop won't accomodate you, contact WSI Distributors in St. Charles, Mo. (They have a web site).
Make sure any finish that is on the knobs is off by using lacquer thinner or acetone. Emerse the knob totally in the solution and let it darken. Don't walk away!! You might come back to a black knob!
When the knob has reached the desired color, remove it and rinse immediately. When dry, seal the knobs using a brass sealer which is available at your hardware store under the brand name of Parks.
Good luck
