Does anyone have any tips on filling nail holes, chips, etc. in old window trim that has been knicked with gouges, nail holes, etc.? Any suggestions on which of the many available wood fillers and putties will take the dark stain I'll need to cover it with to match the existing stain? Many thanks, all!

Get 1 or 2 jars of colored putty - it doesn't need stain but it should be coated with varnish/poly.
