My water heater is a 60 gallon Rheem Gas water heater. It is about 5 years old. I checked the Warranty and It is still good to get a replacement from Rheem. The other day I had my daughter go down in the basement to check for flooding because I was hearing co-workers talking about their flooding problems due to the uncharacteristically warm and rainy weather in central IL in Jan. Anyway...she reported no flooding however there was a puddle of water around the water heater. Good thing i sent her down there...otherwise it could have been a month before i noticed. So when I got home i went down to check it out and began my research. The water appears to be coming from where the TPR valve goes into the water heater. When I apply a bit of pressure to the top of the watter heater more watter comes out from there. It's does not appear to be the threads at all. It's as if there is a gap between the "thing it screws into" and the sides...like it doesn't fit snugly. So I was going to try to take the TRP valve off and i needed to remove the vent cover...that's when i notice water coming up through screw holes in the top of the water heater as well. So when i apply pressure water comes out of the screw holes and the "gap" around the TPR valve. At this point I am not sure if replacing or removing and re-tightening the TRP valve assembly would make sense. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Bit hard to tell from the description, but it sounds like there is a leak somewhere which is saturating the insulation between the external sheet metal casing of the water heater and it's internal tank, and when you press on the casing water is squeezed out. The leak could be at the TPR valve, but it could also be at the water inlet or outlet to the tank, or somewhere else.
