I am helping a friend troubleshoot a yellow color in her water that stains here bathroom fixtures. She has a whole house kinetico system. She had been changing her filters quite often and found a lot of setiment in the filters. The kinetico company in her area is worthless. After a costly visit from a technician he had her recycle her system manually and then hasn't helpped any further. So here are the symptoms..

1) slightly yellow water from the tap not noticable unless you look for it.

2) using a lot of filters that fill with setiment dark.

3) fixtures staining yellow. clean with clr fine but second you run water for a while will stain tile... immediatly.

4) cycles water daily manually.

5) water clears after filter change and as water is cycled for a few days then returns back to issue.

6) use of iron out salt doesn't seem to have an impact.

Any suggestions? I presume it is an iron problem but not sure how to test and prove what is going on. I am going to collect water samples to get tested. I have read about adding clorine, filters make a difference, ionizing the water, pipe problems... but how does one trouble shoot this to see where the problem is mechanical, plumbing or just water changing? I don't know whether to concentrate on the whole house water softner, the water, the pipes, the well...

If I knew what steps to take with each area(water softner then water, then pipes, then well) I could have a process of elimination.

Thanks for any help in this matter.

The First Thing To Do Is To Have The Water Tested.....i Would Concentrate On Iron......putting Iron Out In The Brine Tank Or Using Iron Out Salt, Will Only Clean The Resin, Not The Water.....it Could Possibly Be That Her Water Has Changed Since Her Unit Was Installed And The Unit Needs To Regenerate More Often......does She Have Any Other Issues That Would Suggest The Unit Is Not Working??.....if So, Although It May Sound Simple, I Would Double Check To Make Sure The Bypass Valve Isnt Open.....
