Model #4568291 Serial #CF2911504. Its been kinda noisier than usual lately and this morning got real quiet in mid cycle. Pumped the water out and got under it. Found the coupling between the motor and the transmission damaged-plastic pins on tranny side sheared off and. Everything seems to turn freely nothing is seized. When I turn the transmission shaft by hand the agitator does not turn. Do you think the broken coupling is a symptom of the real problem? Is it worth trying a new coupling? Should the agitator turn by hand? Thanks for any assistance- Wifes already looking at new washers on line so this may be out of my hands anyway:D

Most likely just a broken motor coupling. However, when you turn the transmission shaft one direction it should agitate. Reversing direction should release the brake and spin the tub. You would need to pull the motor and use a good coupling half to turn the tranny by hand to check it. Watch the bottom section of the agitator for movement.
