i am redoing some insulation due to a water leak and the was clear plastic wrap to hold the insulation in place or a moisture barrier? i really dont know. What can i use in place the the plastic...or do they still sell it.

The plastic that you took down acts as a vapour barrier for your home. So you will have to replace it. You may also need black caulking or tape to seal joints between two pieces of Vapour barrier. Vapour Barrier (sometimes called Poly), Caulking, and tape are all readily available at almost any home building store. Hope this helps.

yep thanks just making sure. mine was stapled. Do you think the stuff that use on the outside of the house works better (white stuff) on frame houses?

Do not use the "white stuff" (commonly Tyvek) you see on the outside of homes. It is probably a moisture retarder that must breath and is not a vapor barrier/retarder.
Use 6 mill poly on the warm side of your insulation and tape seams if it is a patch job.
