I am researching new top load washers, and find that many of them do not have lint filters. Any ideas as to why? Our current washer seems to leave lint on dark clothes and we would like to eliminate that on the new washer. Any help would be appreciated!

Alot of lint is the sign of using wrong cycle... Try setting on a less agressive agitating cycle and see if the gets any better. Also a good cleaning of the washer is another step. put 2 cups of bleech into tub and fill it up about 2 inches above the bottom of basket and let set 15 - 30 mins then fill up rest of way and let it run thru a full cycle the a extra rinse..

Most of the washers now have self-clean lint filter that are locate under the tub so you don't see them.
The filter is cleaned each time the washer drains.
Can you supply the model number of your washer?
Sometimes soap can look like lint.
If you use liquid this will not happen but if you use powder and cold water it is possible for some of the powder not to dissolve.
If you usually put the powder on top of the clothes try putting the detergent in first then the clothes.
This will get the detergent mixed quicker and it will have more time to dissolve.
This will happen more in the winter than in the summer.
Because 70 degrees is what a cold water wash should be and in the winter the water coming in to your house is colder than the detergent does not breakdown as it should.
The other factor is the different fabric.
Some fabrics are lint givers and other are takers if they are mixed the takers will come out looking really bad.
