Need some expert advice...

I want to put up a metal shelf from Ikea. The shelf is called MOSSBY (47" x 11") and the brackets are BJÄRNUM. Due to the material and size you can guess it's definitely heavy (as far as shelves go).

Here is my dilemma. I live in a condo where I want to put this shelf on a wall that I share with my neighbor. The wall has about 2.5" to 3" of drywall and then concrete. From what the property manager told me, there is no gap between the drywall and concrete. The concrete is solid due to it being a load baring wall.

What's the best way to approach this? Is it possible to still hang the shelf with larger brackets and not drill into the concrete? If drilling is the only way, how deep should I go and what type of anchors are best in this situation?

I noticed many posts about shelves, but the 3" of drywall has me confused on how to best handle this.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I find it difficult to believe anyone would install 6 layers of sheetrock on a block wall. Drill a test hole with a small (1/16") bit that is at least 5" long. Get the feel of the wall as you penetrate it. Is it solid all the way to the block?

I'd also use a stud finder [or tap along the wall] It is bad practice to install drywall directly to masoanry. It would be odd if there is no insulation between the drywall and the dividing wall.

Thanks for the tips. I found it odd too that the property manager would tell me there is no gap between the wall and concrete.

I'll try that tomorrow, since it's a little too late today to start drilling.
