I recently purchased a home that has an Aprilaire 560 humidifier. I have no experience with a humidifier and was wondering how much water needs to be flowing through the unit for it to be effective. Also, what kind of routine maintenance does it require?

First of all, I wouild start off by taking the pad out and replace it with a new one.. Also clean out the frame/tray that the frame sits in.

If you got "sandpaper" like on the water tray above, that is normal, do not scrub that out.

Follow the 6" pipe off the unit, and see if you have a damper on it.. Should be open in the winter, and closed in the summer.

Just a small stream of water tickles over the pad and out the drain.

Humidity set point, nothing over 45%.. Most people set it for 40%, and lower if ti's colder outside, or windows are getting wet.
