My wife and I noticed the other day we have a slightly yellowish stain running allong a joint on our ceiling(vaulted). Its about 5 inches long and maybe an inch wide. My first thought was a leak in the roof, but we have never noticed that area being wet. Is there anything else that could possibly cause the discoloration. If there is a leak wouldnt we notice the ceiling getting wet?

A small leak won't necessarily make the ceiling visably wet... and roof leaks can travel so the leak may not be directly above the stain.
Use a solvent based stain hiding primer then touch up or repaint your ceiling.... but if there is a continuing leak and it isn't fixed the stain will come back.
