To discover the hardwood floor beneath. The wood floor in the closet looks real nice and the floor I can see when I pull up the carpet at the HVAC registers look good. What would I have to do to repair the holes left by the Tack Strip if I don't want to refinish the whole floor?

You'll probably have to refinish the whole floor, it's tough to make a repair blend well.
