Toilets, Sinks, Showers, Tubs and Disposals - Kitchen Faucet Leak

Hi, I thought I could take care of this myself but since this is our kitchen sink, I would be in big trouble if I took it apart and couldn't put it back together again. I am hoping you can help.

Our faucet is a Price Pfister, I believe one of the 533 models. It is leaking from the base. I found a diagram on their site,

When I took off the handle, there is a plastic part that I am not sure how to take off without ruining. I have posted three photos.

I would appreciate suggestions on how to remove and also which part I should replace and whether these parts are typically available at the local hardware or if I need to order.

Actually, if it is leaking from the base, don't mess with the plastic part. Pull directly up on the swivel part of the faucet. It will come off and expose two or more "o" rings. Remove them and get replacements, coating them with plumber's lube prior to reinstalling the faucet arm. Let us know how it goes.

I followed your instruction but only one o-ring was apparent when I lifted up on the swivel. I replaced it, coating with plumbers lube. That seems to have taken care of the leak.

the faucet appears to be leaking from inside but now its dripping down under the sink. When we run the water, i can see water dripping from the hole on the underside of the faucet where the hot & cold water pipes go in as well as the sprayer hose.

How do I remove the sprayer hose? it looks like there is one nut around a thin copper pipe? is this a compression nut?

It looks like I need to remove this to lift part on top that covers both o-rings.

I don't think the leak was ever "fixed" but it seems that the leak might be coming from where the flexible hose connects to the spout.

Pull the spout out and turn it on, then off and see if by chance there's any leaks.

If not, there's a chance there's a backflow assembly on this faucet that is leaking. Moen faucets follow this same situation.

its been more than a year since I posted the original message and we didn't notice the leak again until recently and now the leak is from the underside. I am trying to find out if I need to replace the faucet. Something I don't understand is what the o-rings have to do with the leak. I took the faucet apart today and the o-rings seem to be there to allow the faucet to swivel but the space in between them is open and hollow. The water supply pipes and the flexible hose for the sprayer run through there but it doesn't look like there should be any water in that area.

Do you think that replacing the o-rings will help? or is it time to start shopping for a complete replacement.

It's not the O-rings, it's going to be another component of the faucet that's leaking, like the sprayer hose or a backflow assembly that's bleeding off and dripping inside the faucet body.
