My redwood board & batten style exterior house is being prepped for a Dunn Edwards latex primer. Scrapers and orbital sanders are being used on the peeling paint. I discovered the painter's son used a disk sander on a wall. The paint is gone but the circular marks are now a new problem and, very obvious.
I've told the painter to use the orbital sander and block sand if necessary to cure the defects.
Any suggestions on how to cure the disk sanding defects?

Additional sanding and a coat of primer and 2 finish coats should eliminate or at least minimize any damage to the wood's finish.
I'd be leary of using a latex primer over redwood. You would be better off using an oil base primer. Latex is fine for the top coat.

Your house, so I understand your concern, but not really your problem - you hired a painter, so just tell him to fix it and make sure he does before the primer goes on. I also agree with Mark that latex paint is fine, but I'd use oil based primer.

Can you recommend a primer product to use?
They have already purchased some primer - Dunn Edwards W 708 EZ Prime. The D/E website calls for this primer product for all wood siding surfaces in any condition (no paint, paint on surface) and, any paint finish.
This house is in Los Angeles - is that a determining factor in primer choice?

Redwood and cedar are 2 woods that are prone to bleed thru latex paint. Solvent based primers do a better job of sealing than a latex primer can.
I don't know if I've ever used any Dunn Edwards coatings. I've heard that some locales restrict the use of solvent based paints, so it is a possibility that might be the case where you live.
Bypass your painter and call the DE store and ask about oil base exterior wood primer. They can tell you if/what's available in your area.
