I bought this house about 3 years ago with a Heil heat/air unit outsid. I replacethe filters in the return faithfully.I have a problem with the air coming back into the house. Not much air coming through the registers. I s there another set of filters on the outside unit . I was told the unit is plenty big enough for the house. But just not much airflow

Has the air flow always been weak, or just over time? Poor air flow on all the vents or a couple?
I would still go out to the unit, and remove the blower cover and find out for sure if there is or no filter in there. Look into the duct to see for sure.
Also, if you find there is no filter, then check the belt if you have one. Make sure the belt is tight, and not slipping. see if the blower cage is clean.
I take it the home has a crawl space under it? If so, you may have flex??? Check to make sure nothing got kinked.

There is poor airflow in all the registers. Yhe main line under the house is solid with the branch lines going to the registers solid also. Where is the blower motor at the unit? Do I take the top off the unit to find it? Or is it underneath the big square box(sheet metal) that connects the unit to the side of the house. We didn't receive any schematics for the unit when we bought the house.

What is the model # of the unit? Should be a door that you can remove... most likely next to the burner service door.

Go to Page 5 Fig 1 (http://icpindexing.mqgroup.com/documents/086477/51801100100.pdf), you'll see the blower service panel. That's the cover you can take off.
As I read on this whole book sounds like there is no place for the air filter. But double check..
Is this unit sitting otuside on the ground?

Ok, then no changes would of been done.. If it was on the roof, then changes would of been done to change the air flow.
so take a look in the blower area when you can.

Also, take a look at the blower speed.. The book shows it..
And just for kicks, when you do have the cover off, turn on the fan switch at the t-stat, and go feel the vents to see if there is any changes in air flow.
