How much should it cost when someone add freon to your unit? I called a technician and he told me that my freon was almost empty. He filled the unit with freon but did not indicate the pounds that were filled. How much on average does a pound of freon cost?

Typically around my area the first pound would be 45 or 60 bones then 15 to 25 per additional pound. What tonnage unit is it? The average unit will hold 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 pounds per ton. If empty you can run up a good sized bill pretty quick, especially once the service charge (95 or so) is added on top. Plus if they did not repair the leak you have thrown your money to the wind so to speak. You know the old saying "Good help aint Cheap and Cheap help aint Good" Better get that leak fixed man.

Saturn is quite right...if the unit was low in refrigerant (VERY LOW as you were told), the right thing to have done, before any refrigerant was added, was to find and fix the leak. Else, you'll have to pay again and again for this service.

I agree with all three of the above.
