I have a GE Weathertron thermostat that I am replacing with a new digital one, but I am having trouble removing the old thermostat. I can get the front cover off, and I have access to the mercury element, but I cannot remove the thermostat from the wall. I don't see any screws that hold the thermostat to the wall. All I see is the terminal strip that holds the wires from the heat pump and two terminals on the mercury element. Can anyone who has experienced this problem let me know how to remove this from the wall?

Can you attach a picture?
You seem to have been able to remove the thermostat but not the subbase. Post pictures please. Maybe clips are holding it in place, not screws.
