Hi All,
I decided to add another keypad to my PowerSeries 632 system (PC1555MX) and so I purchased an LCD5501 keypad off of eBay. What arrived was a LCD5501 DEMOnstration unit which has a LCD5501 seated on presentation unit with 3 push buttons (Delay, Instant, Interior). I removed the keypad and the "keybus" connections along with a soldered connection to a chip on the back of the LCD5501. There is a label on one of the IC's that reads "demo". Nonetheless, I installed the unit and once powered, it displays the time on the LCD display segment. None of the LED's are glowing ... Ready, Armed, or Trouble. I tried to enroll this keypad using the following sequence on this very LCD5501 keypad:
*8<installer code>000 0 11 ##
for a nonpartitioned system using slot 1 (looks like my other two PC5508 keypads are using slots 7 & 8).
I then did a supervisory reset:
*8<installer code>902
No change LED status nor any real indication that this keypad has been enrolled successfully.
I tried to set the time features on this unit (i.e. display time or not, 12 or 24 hr, etc) and it didn't seem to respond as expected either.
Is it safe to say this demo units can't be disconnected and used as a normal keypad?
Any and all input welcome!
Thanks,
Mike
PS: I assumed my system is not partitioned as I didn't see any reference to partitions in file that I uploaded using DLS2002. How can I confirm this completely?

I should note that in the command sequences I did enter the installers code, in fact I had notated it using angled brackets in this posting but looks like the HTML processing must have thought that was an HTML tag of some sort. Nonetheless, the commands were:
*8XXXX000 0 11 ## where XXXX is the installer code
*8XXXX902 to reset
If this keypad is not compatible with my system since its a demo unit, will it damage my panel if I leave it connected?

I'm not really sure just _what_ modifications are made for these things as a demo unit. If it's not showing up once you learn it in to supervision, I would guess that the changes are somewhere more complicated than just cosmetic.
I don't think it's likely to do any damage, it's just not speaking the same language.

:wall: I know the Honeywell demo units can be used as a keypad, but if the DSC unit has "DEMO" stamped on the keypad board, then it is likely to only work as the demo.
