I am preparing to install bamboo flooring over a slab and want to get some opinions about glue vs. floating bamboo over a slab. The slab is above grade but does have black mastic, in very limited thickness throughout.
Can the bamboo be glued directly to the slab in the presence of the mastic? How difficult will removal be 10 years from now?
What are the pros and cons of glue down vs. floating this type of floor?
Thanks.

This may be your deciding factor... Or factors.
The black stuff is cutback adhesive. It and the tiles it once held down are laced with asbestos.
The portland floor prepping componds, say that has to be removed to a stain, and then encapsulated. The glue manufacturers say DO NOT APPLY DIRECTLY OVER CUTBACK ADHESIVE.
The moisture cure urethane glue used to install cost around $35 a gallon, and if there are moisture concerns with the substrate, the urethane moisture barrier cost about the same. The spread rate is about 35-45 sq.ft. per gallon.
