Humidifiers and Dehumidifiers - Help with wiring humidifier

Need help wiring a powered humidifier to the furnace and to a programmable thermostat with built in Humistat. I wish to control the humidifier with the thermostat and not with the supplied mechanical humistat that was supplied with the humidifier.

I have a Totaline/Carrier P110-LFP1418 (new but think same as last years P110-LFP1318) humidifier

I have a RiteTemp 8085C t-stat

I have a Lennox G40UH(X) furnace

The humidifier has two wires (both brown) and a sticker on them that states "Caution Do not connect these leads to line voltage" and a standard 120 plug.

I have plugged in the humidifier and tested both brown wires and neither have any current going through them when the unit is plugged in.

The humidifier instructions show both leads going to a 24V coil normally open relay (part HN61KQ120) the other two leads on the relay connect to the C and HUM on the ‘Thermidistat Control’.

I have talked with RiteTemp and they tell me to use the relay but connect to the H and Rh of the t-stat.

I also briefly 'touched' the two brown wires together while the unit was plugged in and nothing happened, the fan did not move and I did not hear any relays click.

Any clarity on which is the correct method would be helpful and do I need to make any connections to the furnace itself or can I just make the connections between the t-stat and the humidifier?

Also I have a little pump which pumps the condensation to a drain across the room, which is powered by the same circuit as the furnace but only a single outlet is in the box, can I just replace the outlet with a duplex and plug in the humidifier to the same circuit as the furnace and pump?

You want to wire H from t-sat to the relay, and other end of relay to C on the furnace.

As stated above, sounds like you have a defective unit.. I would return it to wherever you got it from for another one.

OK,

I got a new humidifier and now when the two brown wires are connected together the humidifier turns on. I also pick up the relay and connected it up.

I connected each brown wire from the humidifier to pins 2 & 4 of the relay. I connected pin 1 to the H terminal & pin 3 to the C terminal on the T-stat. My issue now is when the t-stat calls for humidity only the blower fan (and humidifier) turns on; no heat is requested by the t-stat.

How can I set it up so that the humidifier will only run if humidity is needed and the heat is running, or is OK to run the humidifier with just the fan and no heat?

Not knowing that t-stat very well, I wasn't sure if this was going to happen or not.. That's why I brought the "how is the stat going to know" questions.

So, looks like we may have to add an A50 or sail switch between the t-stat and the relay.

We are going to need to get a A50 relay, or a sail switch, the A50 would be best.

You will hve to order one on line, most retails don't have them.
