I'm from long island, NY and the temperature right now is about 35'F. It's a pretty old house, and the boiler is in the basement which you would enter from the outside. It's an oil and flame burner, but I don't know how to find out more about it.

We ran out of oil by mistake, so of course everything is off. After getting an oil delivery, I went to press the button that a professional who came to do repairs a while ago said would start it. It started for about a minute, and went off. To be safe, I gave it a few hours and tried again, but same effect. I did some reading and couldn't find anything different I should be doing. Any advice would be most helpful, and if you want any technical information, If you could be specific on how I could retrieve it I could certainly find it. Thank you everyone in advance.

Does the burner have one or two copper lines from the tank to the burner? If two, how far from the tank to the burner? Any filters in the line? What brand of burner & fuel pump?

I guess he got it started because I am from LI also and it is pretty cold here! :D

I doubt it that the boiler would be off for 2 days without getting back on DIY for more info.
