Hi guys... I hate my heating/ac unit. Last year, I replaced the transformer and this summer I had to replace the blower motor. With the help of this forum though, I was able to track down the problems and do it myself. Thank you guys.

Now, though, I have another problem. My wife called me at work today to tell me that the blower is not coming on again. I had her try both AC and Heat modes and she got nothing. If she places the fan switch to "on" instead of "auto" though, the blower does kick on.

What is the most likely problem with this? I won't have a chance to look at it until Tuesday evening and wanted to start with the easiest problem to fix and work from there. I'm guessing to start with the thermostat by jumping red/green and red/yellow (I think? Don't remember all my wire colors right off) to see if the fan kicks on. If it does then the problem is the thermostat right?

If that's not it, I'll check all the relays and then the capacitor. Is there anything else this could be?

Thanks for any info and help.

If the blower kicks on when the fan switch is in the ON position, your transformer and relay are both good.

Do you have a digital thermosstat? They do not kick the system ON right away, they have a chip with a cycling sequence pre-programmed (time-delay), so it could be a few minutes before the unit turns ON after you reset the temperature.

Thanks for the reply.

Well... I checked everything out the other day. The first thing I did was jump the thermostat wires using a short piece of wire as a bridge between terminals. I didn't disconnect any wiring from the thermostat. The fan did come on doing that.

The next thing I did was go the air handler to check everything there. The capacitor was hanging by the wires, out of it's little bracket thing. I made sure everything was connected good and put the capacitor back where it was supposed to be and replaced the screw that was supposed to be securing the bracket to the squirrel cage.

After that, just for giggles, I turned everything to auto and it all worked.

Since I didn't actually disconnect or replace anything at the thermostat, the only thing I can think of is a bad connection at the capacitor.

It's still working fine now, after 3 or 4 days.

Oh... and no, I don't have a digital thermostat.
