hi. i'm down to the studs in our family room the old insulation is mabe 2" thick ..we have some drafts and i want to add more insulation to the walls house built in 1968 2x4 studs ..can i go over the existing insulation with R12 or should i remove the old pink that is tucked behind the elec. wires.some spots has vabour barrier i planed on new vabour barrier all around room then toungue and grove pine 5/8

One vapor barrier is all that is allowed. You should pull pot all of the old insulation and install the highest R value insulation you can get for the cavity. Split it around the wires and cut it around the electrical boxes.
