Our Rheem heat pump does not cool or heat.
Air coming from the vents is room temp. and I am trying to determine if the main unit is faulty or the thermostat in the house. Is there an easy way to check this? I have electrical knowlege and would like to know what can be tested on the thermostat to determine proper operation.
Thanks,
doug

First visually check both the inside and outside units for any icing.

Second check and see if the both the compressor and fan of the outdoor unit are running-not just the top fan but the actual compressor. You should be able to hear it.

Check breaker box to see if outside condenser unit has tripped.

Has the heat pump operated OK recently?

Post back.

Check all like said. Next is you dont say how cold it is there.
When it gets down to say about 20oF outside . The heat pump output is very very low. The air will feel cool. We tell people and I do it in my home I go over to the EME heat while temp is there and lower . Power cost is about the same
then for heatpump or elements, btu output.

I replaced the thermostat and feel heat coming out of the vents BUT, not much air flow. It is drawing more air than it puts out.
It has been upper 30's to low 40's here at night, mid 60's during the day.
I will crawl into the attic and check the ducts, maybe there is a leak.
Thanks for the info, I will post again as soon as I have more info.

The ducts are OK, will get on the roof now and check things there.

New filter, coils are clean. compressor running. "Squirl cage" fan running. condensor fan not running (in heat mode).
I observed the de-icing unit working (coils iced up and unit changed mode, de-iced the coils).
I am at a loss at this point, why very little air coming from vents, no heat.

I turned in on in AC mode and the coils ice up BUT, the condenser fan does not come on! Is there a relay for it? A fuse? something I can check?

Doug

Just to be clear, the outside HP condenser's compressor is running in both AC and heat mode? You are certain?

The compressor runs in both modes, the condenser fan (big fan on top) does NOT turn on.

Is there a place to find a wiring schematic for Rheem heat pumps?
