I purchased a drill bit sharpener from Sears about 25 years ago. The kind that you mount beside your grinder.
I tried at least a half a dozen times over the last 25 years to get the dam thing to work. I would get tired and just put it back in my tool box and move on after a couple of hours wasted.
The other day I had nothing to do so I decide that I would give it one more try. If I failed I would pitch it in the garbage and be done with it.
This time I mounted a small grinder with a 2x6 block under it to a board. Then mounted the bit sharpener to original board
with it facing the side of the grinding wheel about 1/2 up on wheel. It took maybe 3 hours of tinkering this way and that but I finally got the dam thing to work. I did figure out that as the bits get smaller the quality of sharpening goes down. 3/16 is about the smallest quality sharpened bit I could do.
So don't give up on your projects too early they may still work out.
