Hello,

I bought the house I am currently living in about 2 years ago. There is a WaterSofter installed however it has been set to bypass since before I bought the house. I have never had soft water before so I wasn't that motivated to see if my unit still works. Lately the hard water has been a pain to clean in the showers and thought about maybe seeing about this whole soft water deal.

What I do know is it is an Autotrol Series 155 which by reading online and in this forum looks to be pretty old. I have the manual for this unit so I can locate parts and what not. I am pretty handy and typically able tinker with things and repair them. So I am hoping that if this unit is good, with the help from everyone, I can get this unit up and running.

What I don't know is if this unit is already passed it's life span? I am guessing the unit is 15 years old.

Do mineral tanks, gaskets, and valves go bad after prolonged non-use?

If nothing is wrong, what must I replace to get this unit is ideal operating condition. And what steps do I take to determine if anything is wrong?

Thanks,
Kevin
