I just moved into a new home which is equipped with a Brinks alarm system. The model number on the panel is BHS2000F. The previous owner left no information on the alarm and no manual. The alarm system has been disconnected. How can I erase the dialer information and program a new pin/user code for me to use? I don't have the installer code or any other documentation.

You can't.

Brinks hardware is hardcoded with their information, and there is no practical way to get into the programming without having the Brinks programming keypad and their code book (which they guard like the crown jewels).

There are a few sites floating around that _might_ have some info for you, but by and large, with Brinks hardware, you either work with them, or you replace the control and keypad(s).

I have a Brinks BHS-2000F as well, I've lived in this house for over 4 years with no service from brinks.

The system is Locked, but there are some numbers written inside of the control box cover. Could one of them be the code to unlock the system?

I do not want to re-program the system, I just want to unlock it so I can use in un-monitored.

You can't "unlock" these systems without a Brink's programmer. Heck, even a Brinks customer with a master code can't change their code. They have to pay Brinks $25 to download a code change.

Might you suggest a DYI replacement for the Brinks system?

I have read about a Concord Express wireless. I would like to replace the control panels and main box to still utilize the existing sensors.

Just stick with the major brands like Honeywell/Ademco, GE/Networx, Ge/ITI, DSC, or the like. Most will be in the same basic price range.

The GE/ITI Concord family is considered to be a bit more DIY friendly than most, but all of them are not that difficult to follow the instructions for. Just realize that these instructions are not like a set of stereo installation instructions. They are not step by step, they are a reference instruction with generic information, because all alarm installations are custom by defininition.

Just compare the systems feature by feature, and select the one that has the features you want to use.
