I'm getting ready to install a new toilet in my basement. I have a 4" pvc pipe slightly below the finished floor grade, the closet flange will fit inside the 4" Schedule 40 DWV pipe. I was planning on using tapcon concrete screws to secure to the concrete floor and also use PVC cement between the fittings. Just wanted to make sure the PVC cement was necessary, I don't know how you could ever replace the closet flange if it happed to break if it was cemented in.

Also, would it be better to use the circular slots to secure the toilet or the slots located on the sides of the flange.

Hi Lloyd,
What yer doing is just right. If it ever needed to be replaced, you'd cut it with an inside cutter and put a new flange on.

Use the slots that are elongated, with the larger portion for the head of the bolt to slip thu. This allows you to get the toilet square to the wall. Just like a cover for a metal electrical box.
