Hi,

My electric furnace does not produce sufficient heat and I would like to know where I should start checking. It is a dual system heat pump-furnace where the furnace starts heating at -12 degrees Celcius. When it is over this temp limit every thing is fine with the heat pump but now it is starting to get colder I just noticed that my electric furnace does not produce sufficient heat. Can somebody give me a clue where I should start looking (I have just cleaned my filter by the way). The furnace is a Goodman ARUF serie.

Thanks

Is this a new system? Is this a new problem? Was a new thermostat installed recently? Also, check your breakers. Electric furnaces may have more than one.

The Goodman ARUF air handlers with electric heat are fairly reliable. If this is a new system, how many kilowatts and how many heat strips do you have? If this is a new problem, it's possible one or more heat strips may not be working.

A clamp on ammeter and digital multimeter is the best way to check this out.

If you just have a meter .You can turn the unit to EME or AUX heat and call for heat. Then see if you have 220V to each element in the unit AND if they or good. FOR SURE KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

When I clamp the ampmeter to one end of the element and the other to the mass I read 118 volts. Is something wrong or is it my connection that is wrong.

I have check the four of them for continuity and they look all ok.

I have also check the sequencers and the result is input=24v, output=118

A ampmeter You just clap around a wire .This will read the Amp draw then. With a meter you have to put a lead on each wire too the element. Then that has to read 220V .
