I have a Coleman heat pump unit that was put in 1987 and the emergency light came on without me turning it on. What could be wrong with it? We are getting heat but through the emergency heat. Thanks.

Have you checked the outdoor unit??? Is it running or not??? Is it covered in ice??? Or snow????
