Sorry this is such a basic question, but I am not sure how to disconnect the battery to my home security. I purchased the house and have never had the alarm system turned on. Today I have accidently set the alarm!
I have unplugged it from the wall. I have removed the case from the closet and see the battery with the red and black wire. I have tried the pull the wires straight out, but they will not come out. Am I not pulling hard enough?
To make matters worse, I had a candle catch my ottaman on fire, so I have a bad burn on my hand - which could be the reason I am not pulling hard enough. But after the small fire, I think I am just "gun shy"
So if someone could help out an obvious newbie, I would greatly appreciate it!!!!

You just are not pulling hard enough. Either snip off one of the wires (easy to fix if need to) or unscrew the other end from the board.

You might try to carefully pull with pliers (don't make the connection tighter though). I would disconnect the black wire because there would be less chance of a short if the pliers touched something. If this doesn't work, I would cut the red wire (leaving enough wire to reconnect on each side). You could even install a switch when you're ready to reconnect it.
