My daughter moved into her newly built house 2 weeks ago. The contractor had installed a heat pump. The outside unit sits on the southern side of the home. My 2 year old granddaughter's bedroom is on the southwest corner, near the outside unit. It is quite a bit colder in her room than the rest of the house. I noticed last night that cool air rather than warm air was coming from the register in her room. What is causing this & what can be done? They had the contractor come back out but all he told them was that heat pumps work differently than central units. He was no help at all. Could someone please give advice?

What area of country do you live?
Post back Brand, model, and Ser number of your outside unit and inside unit. This info should be on the data plate.
Your house is a single story?
Purchase an inexpensive digital themostat(at big box store) and take readings at each supply register while the system is running. Also take reading at the return air supply. Document the readings with time of day, outside temp, and inside house temp including thermostat setting.
Is HP maintaining thermostat setting?
Post back with your findings.

You got a very bad answer from your contractor! Heat pumps work no differently than electric or fossil fuel. They all have an air conveyance system (Duct). The HVAC contractor most likely did not do a Manual J or Manual D on the home.
It is your builders responsibility to have this corrected.

Like said: Also can be where the tstat is. What happens if you push it up some and close down the other registers a little. Or dampers in the duct to the other rooms some. Blower speed on high??? Return in the room or door cut off on bottom ??? Can be just a cheap cheap furnace and duct job on a new home.
