My fire alarm is in alarm mode. I unplugged ac and battery. I have no Master code and I've tried the *8 5555 and *8 5010 and don't get flashing Program light. or Armed light indications. entered 007 [new code] # anyway but no luck.
If I plug the ac power in I get the alarm in 90 seconds.
How do I trouble shoot the fire alarm? I have ESL 429AT smoke detectors.
I also have the Memory light on.
Do I have to reset system to default installer code? how do I do that? How do I find a listing of "Sections" and their defaults. what defaults typically need to be change?
Please help.

You probably have a smoke detector that is stuck in alarm. When you power it back up, and it goes into alarm, just look at each smoke, the offending one will have the LED telltale on continuously.

If you have neither installer or user codes for this system, and no decent guess at the installer code, the only real option is a default and reprogram. Please read the FAQ for this topic, and look at some of the other posts in the archived posts (things concerning the PC1555/Power 632 also apply, these panels share a common programming model)

You will need the installer manual and programming manual for this system (there are two booklets, and you need _both_).

Run a websearch using the phrase "Installer manual DSC PC5010" and another using the same formula substituting "programming manual". This was/is a very common panel, and there are pretty good odds of finding a free download.

thanks for the quick response!!
OK I asked more questions than I needed since I had already read the FAQ's, some of the previous forum questions and both the user and installation manuals.

I didn't think to look at the smoke detector LED's to see which one was staying on. Thanks for that thought!

To disconnect the offending detector do I simply twist the incoming and outgoing wires together (separately of course)?

I'm a little afraid of hardware defaulting. If I get 10 clicks I'm really stuck because I will have reset all defaults except installer code with no way to reset them to what my system needs (e.g. communicator, phone,EOL resistor issues discussed many, many times by others)
Is this correct or does the 10 clicks mean nothing is reset to defaults??

Listen for the clicks _before_ you try a default (they will sound on power up). If you do the hardware default, and the lockout feature has been enabled, all of the settings _except_ the installer code will reset!

You can disconnect the smoke the way you describe, but you may be able to solve the problem by opening the outer case and giving the smoke a good cleaning with some canned air. It's usually just dust from cleaning/renovation.
