i have the sears craftsman 1/2 hp garage opener, its less than 10 years old and all of a sudden when i click for it to open, all i hear is the motor running but the door is not opening.
i took the chain off to see if the wheels turn, but still nothing but the sound of the motor. anyone can help, please feel free.

Check the gear on the shaft which comes out of the motor on top of the unit. The gear has a pin through it or a set screw to secure it to the shaft.

Sounds like the pin is broken. When you hear the motor running can you see the shaft turning?

Those are nylon gears and have a tendency to strip the teeth off. You can get replacements through Sears.
