I live in Louisiana and rented for over 3 years. The management company told me the owner would like to replace the carpert that was installed back in 1969 with laminated flooring. The project was going to take no more than 3 days. The management continue to explain the only inconveniece would be on night we will not be able to use the kitchen. The flooring contractor would also move my property did not need my assistance.

The project was going to take 5 days, but it was stop on the third day because of my complaints. I explained to the manager the home had dust from the carpet and paste mixture. My wife and I spent hours to clean up everything once it was completed and the manager told me the owner had no intention to compensate. My children still cough and sneeze because of the remnant of the dust that lingers on.

The contractor did not cover any property, so I moved many furniture myself to the second floor to prevent dusting.

I wrote a letter to the management company letting them know I hold them 100% responsible and giving them 30 days to compensate me for these poor living conditions and hours of cleaning.

My question is: Am I going after the right party or should I also include the owner and contractor? The contractor also damage my television.

It is doubtful that you will get anywhere with this situation. Read your lease to see if you have any recourse. You can, of course, hire an attorney that specializes in landlord/tenant law.

Sneezing and coughing may not be due to dust, as you say you have cleaned everything. It may be due to the offgassing of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) which are found in many flooring products and adhesives. Some folks are more sensitive to VOCs than others, especially small children, the elderly, and folks with respiratory problems and allergies. Opening windows and running fans will expedite the offgassing. You might want to take the kids to the pediatrician to check on their respiratory problems.
