All,

My wife and I are considering buying a new build condo. Unfortunately, the builders put in a shower stall in both bathrooms and no bathtub. We want a bathtub. The entire place is totally unfinished. The shower stall is 47" long and, as you know, most bathtubs are 60" long. How much of a pain would it be to move the faucet / drain wall back 13" and install a tub? I looked and it is totally hollow behind the wall in question. They are quoting us $10k, which sounds absurd. Thanks for any help.

Sounds high, but is the shower installed? what goes in that space that is 'hollow'--is it a route for flues, pipes, electric, etc.? Is that wall a bearing wall? Sometimes what looks simple involves serious issues.

Tell them you don't want it without a tub and you won't pay more than 1K to get it. Then you'll find out if it really is a big deal. They may just be jerks you'll be sorry you signed a contract with anyway.
