I have a wall that will be 1/2 tile and 1/2 paint (Durock for the lower 1/2 tiles and Green Board for the part to be painted above).
What is the proper way to tape the seam where Green Board abuts Durock? I didn't want tiles on the seam, so the Durock will extend above the tile line ~ 1 foot.
Just regular paper tape and compound, 3 coats, etc.

Normally you fill the joint with thinset and let the tile overhang unto the drywall. i guess you could finish it like regular drywall. using a settting compound like durabond might be better than j/c..

I agree with the poster above. In my two remodels I've allowed the last tile to span the cbb & drywall. Make sure its a but joint (no tapered edges on either board) use mesh tape and just fill the joint, you won't need to feather it out because the joint will be covered.
