My husband and I are putting on a 700 SF addtion and included in that we are changing from carpet to hardwood on our stairs. We currently have Braz. Koa/tigerwood in our pool table room that is very close to the stairs. I have many questions: 1) is there a harder wood than Koa that will coordinate well with it? I have twin 5 year-old boys and need something a little harder for the stairs; 2) what is a great soundproofing product? (refer back to 5 year-old boy twins); 3) treads or planks w/ nosing?

Really appreciate anyone's input.
