I had some potted plants on my hardwood floor. Unknowingly (even though I checked for over watering) water leaked over the tray the plants sat in and onto the floor. Because it went unnoticed, when I moved the pots I found the wood under the pots discolored (darker) and the surfaces warped. Can I sand and refinish with a similar stain? Any other suggestions?

I feel your pain after having a saltwater tank leak a bit on my beautiful hardwoods.... Unfortunately, refinishing hardwood floor in tiny sections is close to impossible, IMHO, for a DIYer. The biggest issue is matching the original stain for the refinish. Not to mention that a typical DIYer belt sander with 36grit paper will hardly put a dent in the defect. Someone may have a better idea - but I ended up hiding my problems, rather than fixing them, until I could justify having the entire floor refinished.

I'd hire this out, you need to address the warp as well as the finish.

Sanding out mineral stains and possibly mold, is near impossible. Board replacement is suggested.
