Well after some years of not having the alarm set up how I want I finally got the installer code by reading the threads here.
I managed to turn off the exit chime when going in away mode after reading the installers manual but there is something else I want to change but I don't fully understand how or if I can.
When I have a power failure nothing is sent to nextalarm so there is no log of it but when my father has a power failure it logs in his nextalarm history, I would like to enable power failure loss/restore notification but I don't want to screw it up and also can low battery alarm be changed to only notify nextalarm but not actually set off the alarm? Sorry for the stupid questions but I have been wanting to make these changes for years now.

Go to programming and enter *62 1 1, *63 1 1, *73 1 1 and *74 1 1
This will turn on AC power failure and low battery reporting and their restores, these only send signals, they don't activate the alarm sounder. The power failure report has a random delay built in, which was intended to keep multiple systems from an area from flooding monitioring centers when there is a general power failure.

Thanks, I disconnected the battery and I received the low battery notice but when I reconnected the battery the display says bat with no zone so I am not sure if my battery is bad (it's a few years old) or it needs to charge for a while. Any recommendations on where to get a replacement if that is what I need?

The "Bat" never went off even after arming and disarming the alarm but I went into test mode and the alarm sounded a couple of seconds and when I disarmed the test the "Bat" cleared and I received the bat restore notice in nextalarm. I am not sure why I had to go into test mode to get it to work.

The test mode forces a full battery test. The reason it didn't clear before is because ademco design panels you have to enter the code + 1 _twice_ to clear a trouble.
