I have a snow blower Craftsman 8 hp - it is one year old with an electric start -- I tried the electric start and all I get is a hum -- I also tried pulling the cord and it won't allow me to pull it -- what should I check next?

I moved this post to a thread of it's own, since you attatched it to a thread from 2003 that was unrelated to the problem you've described. This way you're more likely to get help rather than folks who ignore it thinking it's a 4 year old thread.

As for your problem, it sounds like something has the engine locked up. I suggest removing the spark plug and see if the engine will turn slowly (be careful, if it has gas in the cylinder causing it to lock, it could shoot out and ignite by the plug wire). If removal of the spark plug doesn't allow it to turn, then you have either a jammed starter or something locking the engine at the PTO or internally. Could be a belt stuck to the pulley.
