I have a wall mirror glued (Ithink) to the wall and it is located above the fireplace. I plan to install a mantel around the fireplace and will need to trim part of this mirror as the new mantel height is taller than the existing moulding frame. My question is can I safely trim the mirror with a Dremel tool without cracking the remaining mirror on the wall? Thank you.

NO....NO.....NO. A Dremel tool does many things but it will not cut a mirror. The only way this could be done is to remove the mirror, remove the glue from the back of the mirror, cut the mirror with a glass cutter and re install it.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is it is glued to the wall so removing it is probably not an option...based on the several other posts I've read.

Depending on the type of glue (mastic) that was used, it may be able to be removed by a professional. If not, then it must be broken to be removed and replaced with a new mirror. This will probably be the way to go.
