Is the grey cellulose blown in insulation in my attic hazardous ?
I have a builder helping me with an addition and he says it contains asbestos. I searched the internet and everything I saw says only the "vermiculite" type is hazardous. Isn't the grey blown in just some other material other than the modern fiberglass blown in ?

Id say since it is grey it's cellulose. If your home is pre 80's I might test it to be sure.

The "grey stuff" would be cellulose and the only hazard from it iis breathing its dust particles.
I an surprised your "builder" would not know this or does he know something we don't?
Is he a licensed carpenter and does he carry full liability insurance and workers compensation insurance?
These are questions you should ask.
You need to protect yourself.

i agree. the grey stuff is probably ground up newspaper. vermiculite has a distinct appearance. you builder should know the difference.
one question - do you have layers of insulation or just one?
