Hello, first timer here...anyways, my situation.
Bought house in '98, had Smith Alarms install alarm system (Vista-10SE and N8371V1 12/96 is printed inside panel) and monitor for us. Alarm system is ours, or so Smith Alarms told us years ago. ADT has since taken over Smith Alarms and monitoring service. Getting ready to terminate and have read horror stories about being locked out of alarm system.

My question is, should I access my system, learn the Master Code, change the Master code, and then terminate monitoring? Will ADT know that I've done this right away?

We've long ago fulfilled our 3 yr contract with Smith Alarms and to my knowledge don't have a ADT contract but a Quarter-to-Quarter payment to ADT.

Any insight would help...thank you.

Assuming that you have no contract obligation, there's nothing stopping you from going in to programming and erasing the phone numbers, including the download access number by entering *41*, *42*, and *94*. This turns the panel into a local only panel.

When they know will depend on how often your system was configured to do an automatic timer test (daily or weekly seems to be the ADT standard). Even then all they will do is call you and ask if you are aware that your system has not been communicating.
