I want to bypass it so I can get off the mower without it shutting off. Does that switch provide a ground or how does it work? Could I simply run a jumper wire on it?

on my troy built,i put a piece of would between the contacts on the switch,

kinda depends on your application, some can just be jumped and some cannot. just remember it is a safety item.
