We are getting ready to turn our dining room into a billiards room. The floor is currently parquet wood, installed 30 years ago. (we are new owners) It is over a garage, not on a concrete subfloor, and is very solid, well layed. We want to install carpet. Does the parquet need to be removed first or can the carpet be layed directly over it. Does the weight of the pool table need to be taken into consideration?
Thanks for any info/suggestions!

You can put carpet over this. Weight of the table needs to be taken into consideration for the flooring system itself, but not the carpet (though it will mat the carpet under its legs).

I understand the pool table will mash the carpet. Once it's in, we definetely won't be moving it. :) I guess what I was wondering if the weight of the table will somehow buckle the parquet. I know there will be a layer of padding and then carpet, but guess I'm (actually my husband) is a little paranoid.
Also, we got the o.k. by a contractor about the flooring system/weight issue.

You should be fine.
