Would appreciate any users' comments/thoughts regarding the Ryobi RE180PL plunge router. It comes with a 1/2 inch collet and a 1/4 inch adapter. Is this adapter as good as an actual 1/4 inch collet?

Thanks much

Most good plunge routers will come with a 1/2" collet with an adapter for 1/4", and they work fine. I have no experience with that particular model of router, but have used ryobi in the past with good results. Check out how the lock works. Is it friendly? Do the stops actually stop the motion accurately? You don't want any flimsiness in the motion or the whole thing is worthless.

No, the collet adapter is not as good. There is always a chance of it being unbalanced. Take a look at the Sears dual base that has come out. An excellent combination, and is getting great reviews. $119
